Benefits of Membership

Presidents and other institutional leaders accrue diverse benefits from their Compact membership. Among the most commonly cited benefits by presidents are:

Membership in a growing state and national coalition of presidents committed to public service.
Member presidents are part of a state and national civic engagement movement.  Illinois is one of the nation’s largest state Compacts (43 presidents) and over 900 presidents are now part of the national Campus Compact network, representing the full spectrum of U.S. higher education institutions.

Access to a wide range of grants, professional development opportunities, and related members services.
Member presidents appreciate the grants and services offered to their staff, faculty and students.

Advocacy with the public, media, government, corporations, and foundations.
Member presidents understand that civic engagement holds great promise for not only improving outcomes for their students, communities, and institutions, but also for reinvigorating larger public confidence and support for higher education.  ILCC serves as a powerful ambassador for higher education, calling attention to the multiple contributions of colleges and universities to local communities and to the state as a whole.

Collaboration and common ground among schools throughout Illinois
Member presidents appreciate the Compact as a unique forum in which presidents from all types of higher education institutions — public and private; two-year and four-year; large and small; urban, suburban and rural — can collaborate and convene on common ground.
